The on-screen chemistry of a duo can be the make or break for the movie’s success. If done right, they take the film from a blockbuster to a cult classic. If not it’ll most likely tank in the box office and go down in history the way The Tourist did. These big screen dynamic duos made their films in to enormous success stories:

Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe – Nice Guys
The 80s cop flick was blessed with an unlikely chemistry, Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe.The pair of down and dirty private investigators off-set their sarcasm with slapstick comedy, keeping their deadpan expressions intact. It comes as no surprise that the pair have continued their bromance since the film wrapped last year.

Jonah Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio – Wolf of Wall Street
This high energy film is filled with fantastic performances, but the relationship between Donnie, played by Hill, and Jordan (DiCaprio), is a highlight. Whether it’s a strung out scene or on the trading floor, the pair are always on the same page.

Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles – 10 things I hate about you
Yet again, sometimes a bit of sarcasm goes a long way. Patrick’s (Ledger) relentless yet charming attempts to win over Kat (Stiles) are both heart warming and romantic, as well as hilarious.

Charilze Theron and Tom Hardy – Mad Max
It’s widely reported that the two were constantly at each other’s throats while working on Mad Max, however, this tension might have worked it their favour.
There’s certainly no sense of awkwardness as the two hack into each other on the film or during any of their fairly minimal dialogue.

Ralph Fiennes and Tony Revolori- Grand Budapest
Up-and-coming Revolori carries this Oscar-winning movie alongside Fiennes. The pair perfectly compliment the typical Wes Anderson feel, bringing a ridiculous comedy to the film.
Their off-the-cuff approach compliments the student and master dynamic and is no doubt one of the reasons for the movie’s success.

Are some pairings just too good to fail? The Pegg-Frost combination is one that have proved a success time and time again.
The British duo’s first film of the ‘Cornetto Trilogy’ kick started the duo’s film relationship, now 12 years down the line the pair have another trilogy in the pipeline.

Another down and dirty pair which cinematic magic. While there is a lot of credit due to Quentin Tarantino’s writing, the two actors brought something special to the roles that would revitalise Travolta’s career while making Jackson something of a movie legend.
The two are so noticeably at ease with each other that they come across as lifelong friends.

Among everything else Fight Club does so well, it gave us one of the most intense and complicated duos of all time. Beyond Pitt and Norton’s relationship moving from friendship to resentment, the adding a twist of the duo as one person is just too much to ignore.
Add to the formula top-notch performances from both and you’ve got an American classic.
